I fished today with Mitch and Mitch out of Seaview.

We had a tough time of it with the fishing. The bluefish beat on us all day. We ended up with a 21 inch fluke and 15 pound striped bass. The weather was also tough with some rain in the morning and fog most of the day.

Such is fishing. You have to take the good with the bad however every day on the water is good.
I fished today with Mark Epstein, his cousin Barry and his nephew Peter (center, left, right)out of Saltaire on Fire Island.

We had a good day of fishing with bass up to 32 pounds.

Barry had the big fish on my new Lamiglas 8 foot stick custom wrapped at Augie's Tackle in Babylon. It is a beautiful rod and Barry and the guys loved it.

Barry wore his fish shirt and I think that was the trick for catching fish. I should probably keep a few of those shirts on board in the future and give them out when we leave the dock for good fish "Karma".

It was fun fishing and the day was beautiful.
I fished today with Bob Bauer and his buddies Mike and Bob (left to right).

We had a pretty good day of fishing with a nice 30 pound bass which Mike caught.

We dropped a couple of other fish and got beat up by bluefish.

The weather was beautiful and the big thunderstorm passed us by to the north.

Things could be worse as most others today caught nothing.

It was a good day on the water and we all had a good time.

A 30 pound fish in the boat and a shot at some others is OK by me.
I fished today with Fred McKibben of "Grace Bar and Restaurant" in Manhattan and his buddy Danny out of Saltaire.

We had a super day of striped bass fishing with 15 fish up to 37 pounds. We released at least 3 fish over 30 pounds and all the rest were over 25 pounds.

I guess it must have something to do with 7/7 lucky sevens. I think 7/11 might even be better. Just kidding because today is about as good as it gets.
I fished today with Kevin Ryan and his buddy Jason (left to right).

We worked hard and traveled a long way for a couple of fish. Big difference from yesterday but we caught striped bass. The bluefish were real tough today and the wind made it hard to really work the spots.

We had a good time however and fished hard. We didn't go home empty handed and it was another good day on the water with good people.
Gulp Alive was the hot bait of the day. We started with both Spearing and Gulp and the Gulp out fished the real stuff to the point we fished with all Gulp. The Gulp stays on the hook just keep recharging the bait by dipping it in the bucket often. We fished traditional fluke rigs and hooked the Gulp just like the real stuff through the eyes. Non stop action all day.

I fished today with Jerry Jerome and his son Jimmy (left to right).

We caught fish but it was a pretty tough day. I can't say we didn't have our chances but Lady Luck wasn't on our side today. We dropped a few and broke a line on one that was hooked good.

Everything was pretty quiet today. I think the ocean swell the past couple of days put the fishing off. The water was also pretty dirty.

So it goes in the fishing world. One year ago today we slayed the big fish.

It was a most beautiful day however and fish in the boat and beautiful weather is pretty good on any day.

Another good day on the water and Happy Birthday Jerry.
I fished today with Jan and Gina Stollerman and their friends Josh and Haley.

We had an excellent half day of fluke fishing both in the bay and ocean.

We had one keeper in the bay and then four nice keepers up to 9 pounds in the ocean. We fished real light tackle and had a lot of fun. The action was pretty hot with lots of throwbacks but some quality fish in between. The big fish and another 4 pound fish were caught on Berkley "Gulp minnow" and "Gulp minnow grub" baits.

Gina was the lucky one with the big 9 pounder showing it off in this image.

I fished today with Donald Murphy and his wife Jane and kids, Ryan, Matt and Don Jr. (left to right)out of Fair Harbor.

We had a good half-day of fluke fishing working from the Moses Bridge to the inlet. We caught about 50 fish with three keepers up to about 23 inches. Berkley "Gulp" caught two of the keepers. It is a red hot bait and I will be selling it through the http://www.skimmeroutdoors.com website in the near future.
• This report in from Gary Arnold of the http://www.skimmeroutdoors.com fishing team.

July 16th-17th - We did our first offshore tuna trip of the year. I fished with Sal Lacasio, Chris Madonia and Alan Donnelly aboard Sal’s 30’ Grady White – Loco Jo. It started out with a lot of discussion about where to fish. All the reports said fish west. After one more look at the water temperature breaks we decided to go east and settled in at the Middle Grounds. Some times you need to go with your gut. We landed at our target area about 5:30pm and proceeded to troll until dark. Not one fish! We tied up and started the chunk at 9:30pm not expecting much and we were right. Again, not one fish. We picked up at 4:00am and started the troll again back towards the flats. Lots of radio chatter about fish but we didn’t have a knock down. At 10:30am, we decided to give it a half hour more and we were rewarded with our first three knock downs of the trip. The biggest Yellow Fin was between 50 and 60 lbs. We worked that area going 9 for 9 with the Yellow Fin. Water is cystal clear, full of bait and sea life. We saw Whales, Turtles and Dolphins, with the last pod of Dolphins giving us quite the aerial show. Another great day off-shore with some great guys. ------Gary Arnold

I fished today with Victor Guadalupe and his sons with great nicknames, Magoo, Duke and Boomer (left to right) out of Seaview on Fire Island.

We had a lot of fun catching about 40 fluke with a keeper fish. The "Gulp Minnow" in emerald color was hot today.

I forgot to take the photo before filleting the fish so Boomer is holding the fillets in a bag.

It was a good morning of fishing with lots of action and a beautiful day. Keepers are hard to come by but it is fun fishing.

Duke is an intense fisherman and brought his own rod. I hooked him up with a good rig and he caught real well.

The kids had a great time and Victor and I enjoyed watching them have fun.

Another great day on the water.

 • There are not many on the water with the Striped Bass fishing experience that Captain Al Lorenzetti has. Through the years Captain Al has developed a live bait Striped Bass rig that has been extremely effective. Because Striped Bass feed head first the rig keeps the hook in the perfect position for easy hook ups and minimizes gut hooked fish.

Al uses a Mustad Ultra Point 8/0 live bait hook with a duolock snap to keep the bait in place wich also makes the rig IGFA complient. The leader is 60 pound pink Ande and is attached with a Trilene
knot.

I fished today with Doug Modico and his kids Maggie, Jack and Sam (left to right)out of Saltaire.

We had a good morning of fluke fishing catching at least 60 fish and three keepers up to about 4 pounds.

Maggie got the big fish which she is holding for the photo. Once again the "Gulp Minnow" in smelt color caught the big fish.

It was a beautiful day, clear and hot with very little wind.

Another great day on the water.
I fished today with Warren Diller and his son Matt out of Saltaire.

We ran a long way to catch bait and fish in some different areas. We were rewarded with on fish and dropped another maybe two.

It was a beautiful day on the water and bait is around but the fish are lazy and not bunched up and busting on the bait.

One day to the next is very different. Typical for this time of year.
• This shot is head on with top side to the right. Also notice all the teeth curved to the center and larger than normal. Also notice the lobed fin notched out to accomodate the eye.

A customer came into Augie's Custom Tackle shop today with a remarkable fluke. It was brown on both sides, not just partial like you see often but completely dark with no white whatsoever.

I fished today with Brad Brown out of Saltaire.

Brad and I always have a good time fishing and usually do pretty well.

Today was most excellent. We caught 10 bass up to about 30 pounds and left the fish biting to go fluke fishing in the ocean.

We found a fluke hot spot and caught so many we got tired of reeling up from the depths. It was about one in five keeper ratio. It finished off a great day of fishing and will provide a good bunch of fish for Brad, family and friends.

Working with Northeast Angling this week up in Cape Cod Mass. We trolled for 5 hours for tuna in a 3 to 4 foot chop 15 miles East of Chatham with out a touch. We decided to do a Bass show in the Monomoy rips. This is extreme fishing to say the least. The water is so clear you can see all the fish in the waves. You need a person on the wheel at all times as you can see in the photo. We wound up with a very exciting striper show that will air this fall.
We shot a great Fluke show fishing off of Martha's Vineyard. Capt. Joe Huckemeyer of the Helen H out of Hyannis Mass was the guest Captain. All the fish were big and tough and this sure to be a great show.
I fished today with Mike Lippman and his sons Max on left and Sam on right.

We caught a mess of fluke in the ocean on a half-day trip and had some keepers.

It is amazing how many fluke are out there. It was almost impossible to get three rods in the water. As soon as the bait hit the bottom there was a fish on it.

The keeper ratio is not great but the action is super.

Today I fished with Dan Weinlandt, his buddy Graham, Graham's son Tim and other buddy Robert, left to right.

We had a pretty good day of fishin catching two keeper fluke while slow trolling in the ocean. There was no wind and very little tide so trolling was the only way to keep away from the skates and sand sharks.

We then worked hard for a bass and finally connected with a fish just under 20 pounds.

The weather could have not been better but the fishing was not up to par.

Overall it was another good day on the water.
Today I fished with Joey Reiman, his wife Cynthia and their sons Alden and Julien all right to left. Joey is originally from here but the family now resides in Atlanta and is vacationing in Ocean Beach. Everyone returns to their roots occasionally.

We did a half day fluke fishing in the bay. As you can tell from the photo they are holding no fish. We caught a ton of fish, probably about 50 but not one came close to 20.5 inches.

We got caught in thunderstorms so we ducked into the Kismet Inn before heading back to Seaview and had some snacks.

It all worked out fine and it was a good trip. You have to work around Mother Nature and somehow you can still make a good day of it. Fight Mother Nature and you can have hard times.
• Here we have Perm and Efrat enjoying a little lunch and taking a break from the fishing.

It was a beautiful day on the water with plenty of fishing action. Too bad the fishing regulations in NY are so ridiculous. The bottom is paved with fluke and we had some nice fish up to 20 inches and almost 3 pounds. Some day soon hopefully the decision making politicians will wake up and see that their regulations are stupid and that it is destroying the recreational fishing industry. We had about 5 nice fish over 19 inches and it would have made these people very happy to go home with a couple of them for dinner. What a travesty.
I fished today with Meryl Messineo and her friends Efrat Ginot and Prem Ramchandani out of Seaview.

We fished the bay for a half-day fluke trip. We caught a ton of fish, maybe 50 but not one keeper.

Here is Meryl with one of the smallest fluke I have ever seen caught on a bait.

From the numbers and size of these fish I would make an educated guess that the fluke are reproducing at an incredible rate.
We fished the ocean for fluke and caught a bunch of fish and three keepers.

The water was nice and clean and there were lots of fish but not many big ones.

We caught a bunch of snappers to use for bait and they were bunched up and heading for the inlet. It looks like the late summer run of snappers heading for the inlet is on and that should mean that the big weakfish and fluke should be on the feed soon.
