skimmer > Striped Bass
Marone saxatilis

The Moronidae Family of fish have a streamlined, silvery body with longitudinal stripes. Horizontal stripes are often found in schooling fish which serve as a form of disruptive coloration; the fusion of stripes between members may confuse both predator and prey. They may also visually assist in aligning and orienting members of the school
skimmer > Stripers, like salmon, are anadromous fish that migrate from fresh water where they were born, to salt water for growth, and back to fresh where they spawn the next generation.
skimmer > Although the largest recorded measured 6.5 feet and 125 pounds, the world record on pole weighed 78.5 pounds. On Sept. 21, 1982, Albert McReynolds reeled in a striped bass that was 53 inches long and 34.5 inches wide which took four hours to land.
skimmer > Glen Rankin holding a 30 pound Bass and a 25 pound bass that he caught on July 8th

I wanted to post this report from Scott Bronson but just didn't get around to it until now. I wish I could have seen it for myself.

Al,
A couple of weeks ago (April 30th), while fly fishing in the State Channel, a Peregrine Falcon chased my large white squid fly. It dropped out of the draw bridge and chased it on the forward and back cast. It turned on a dime. It must of thought the squid fly was a small tern or something. The falcon just missed my face chasing the fly on the back cast.

The weather was lousy, but the fishing was pretty good. Lots of schoolies.

I'll add that it was part of an internal Eastern Flyrodders club charity tournament to raise money for breast cancer research/awareness. Here is a picture of me with a fish. This was the typical size for the day. We also took a picture of the falcon on the bridge (very ready to attack again)...but he looks to small in the picture.

PS- love the new website look and reports.
