The afternoon bite was good as several anglers had fish close to the 10-pound mark. With fishing aside however, fellow angling buddies gathered for dinner - ribs, chicken, corn, quesidias and ice cream for dessert. Posing for the photo with Tim and I (bottom left to right) are Jack Sanders, Pat Amadio, Mick Robson and Steve Schneider. The top row (left to right) includes Tim, Jonathan Munay, Rick Holmberg, bartender Joel, Gary Sanders and myself.
Stay tuned for tomorrows action as Rick Holmberg and I hit the water. Photo courtesy of Samuel Haros.

The early morning bite wa s bit tough, but Rick Holmberg managed this 3-plus pounder using a Carolina rigged worm. Stay tuned for the afternoon action and hopefully the 10-pound shot!

The afternoon bite was good with many fish in the 3 to 5 pound class on Carolina rigs. And, although the rigs were working well, a Rapala rattlin shad duped this 5 pounder.

We may not be banging 10 pounders on every cast, but views like this make it all worth the trip. Speaking of 10 pounders, several anglers came close today, but several over 8 were caught on small poppers in close to shore.

The afternoon bite was red hot with tons of fish caught – and once again several fish over 5 were landed, however no 10 pounders were caught. Rick Holmberg landed this impressive 7-1/2 pounder using a 7-inch Yum Dinger in watermelon red flake on a G. Loomis rod and Shimano Curado reel. The fish was caught along a rock lined ravine, which I might add was a magnificent sight.

Your trek will include visiting 400-year old colonial towns that look like they were plucked from a Hollywood movie set. Steel Thunder’s custom-tailored trips can incorporate everything from hunting, fishing or golf adventures; to ATV and Jeep excursions for your non fishing friends. Just like in all cases of fishing, some days are real tough, and this morning was one of those days. Although Rick Holmberg and I did catch fish to 3 pounds on Zara Spooks, this is not what we were looking for. With only this afternoon, plus Sunday morning left in our trip, you can bet we will be casting hard in search of the 10 pounder.
Getting back to the scenery available; this shot of Rick is a bit sad as well as intriguing. The cemetery area - notice the cross to the right - is submerged for most of the year!

The afternoon bite was slow with fish to 3 pounds caught by Rick and I. The remainder of the fleet also only had fish to 5. Just like fishing back home, or wherever you fish - sometimes you catch, sometimes the bite is off; even in places as well known as El Salto!
Shots like this sunset however make even the toughest days on the water bearable. Tomorrow morning will be our last shot at the elusive 10 pounder, so stay tuned and I'll update the trip when I get back in New York late Sunday night or Monday afternoon - tight lines.

Although I may look like the Pillsbury Doughboy in this photo, the morning chill forced me to don my Frogg Toggs foul weather gear. This bass, which weighed in at 5 pounds, smashed a Zara Spook fished in a brush field close to the camp on our last day of action. Although I did not get my 10 pounder, the trip was still a rewarding experience that I feel all freshwater anglers should experience. Watch for the Mexico travel article in an upcoming issue of The Fisherman in 2006!

On our final day of action, Rick Holmberg and I fished with Bill "Chappy" Chapman of Anglers Inn. Here's Chappy, who lead us to a good topwater bite on Sunday with a fine 5 pounder.
