It was a lot of fun on a beautiful day. We anchored up on some good rips and had a blast watching the fish smash the plugs. Scott is working a big bluefish in these shots which are again frames from video that I shot on my new Sony camcorder.

Today was an excellent day of bass fishing. I felt it would be the only good weather day this week so I went to do a little bass hunting. I had a ball catching over 20 bass from 12 to 18 pounds on plugs. Here is the bass smacking the plug on the edge of a rip. They were going crazy when they felt the hook. I had fish doing flips in the air trying to shake the plug.
They were fighting right up to the boat. I worked this fish slowly till I got him near the boat.
He was pretty tired fighting against the drag and the current. I finally got him to the boat and released him like I did the rest.
It was a beautiful morning and a memorable day of fishing.
These photos are still shots taken off of a mini DV camcorder tape on my new Sony PC 1000.

I went fishing on an exploratory mission today. I have been away for a week and had to get my finger on the pulse of what is going on. Things are pretty good as far as I can see. I had no problem finding bunker for live bait. I fished a couple of spots and had a couple of bass up to 30 pounds. Things look promising for the upcoming run. The presence of a tremendous amount of bait is a sure sign of a great fall run.
My buddy Bill Gambrill and his dad fished for fluke today on Bill's boat. They fished east of Fire Island Inlet and did well with fluke up to 7.5 pounds. Here is his dad that caught the big one.
And here is Billy jumping in to show off with his dad's big fish. Son's always try to emulate their dads. It's just the way it is. Worth noting is that they caught the fish in 60 to 70 feet of water on Peruvian spearing.

I have spent the past week in San Diego, CA. I visited my son Luke and his girlfriend Sonja. I did all the good stuff, La Jolla, Sea World, Cabrillo Point, Mission Bay etc.. As for me the most interesting part was probably the harbor where all the long range fishing boats are berthed. I talked to Frank LoPresti, the guy that started it all with the "Royal Polaris" and long range trips to Clipperton Island. It was a pleasure to talk to him after meeting him about 20 years ago when he came east to talk to a bunch of fishing clubs about this exciting kind of fishing.
I have consequently decided to make a trip on the "Royal Polaris" next fall with my son and Tim Smith if all things work out. It will be about a 6 day trip to catch yellowtail, yellowfin, bluefin, wahoo, mahi and whatever else is out there. This is a shot of the harbor where the boats tie up at "Fisherman's Landing". It is a beautiful facility.

The tackle shop at the harbor is outstanding with all the tackle and gear you could want. It's amazing how different the equipment is as compared to the East Coast. Notice all the metal jigs hanging on the far left wall. These are hot for the kind of fishing they do over here. How about the reel display? Farther to the right are the larger reels. I couldn't fit it in. Great selection. Top notch shop.
I recommend a stop by the harbor if you are in the area and San Diego is really a beautiful city with lots to do. The surf is really good with overhead almost every day and 10 to 15 feet on numerous occasions especially in the winter.
