I had a great day of shooting skeet and sporting clays at the Suffolk Trap and Skeek Range in Yaphank (631-924-5600). This is Dean who I have not shot with for about 6 years or at least since this range was previously closed. It reopened a few months ago after much litigation due to complaints about noise from a few of the neighbors in the surrounding area. Thanks to it opening again I was able to reconnect with other sportsmen that I knew in the past.

Here is John Cunningham, one of the best shooters in the Northeast. I haven't shot with John in years and it was great being with him and watching him shoot. John is giving lessons at Suffolk Trap and Skeet. He is a great guy to be with and can certainly straighten out your bad shooting habits. If you want to improve your score in any shotgun sport, John is the guy that can do it for you. John is also great with beginners and will gladly show you how to learn to shoot so you don't develope bad habits that will be tough to correct later on. John has a great personality and is a lot of fun to be with on the shooting range.
The clubhouse has been totally revamped and renovated. The proprietor Mark Wroobel has done a magnificent job of improving the site. He has added an up to date shooting accessory and gun store to the operation. You can purchase ammunition on site and any other gear you might need. There is a gunsmithing available on site to fix any problems that you might have with your firearms. Mark also owns and operates "Hunter Sports" in Massapequa which is a full service gun shop (516-799-7923).
There is a comfortable lounge area and clean large bathrooms. There is a kitchen area with tables for you to have your lunch or breakfast. It has vending machines for snacks and drinks and there is always a pot of coffee available.
The main room of the lodge is warm and comfortable with lots of room to hang with your buddies between rounds of trap, skeet, five stand or sporting clays.
There are four trap, four skeet fields, a five-stand field, a wobble trap and a 12 stand sporting clays course. Mark is working on introducing other games in the future and adding more stands to the clays course. Even without those improvements, it is an excellent facility and a great place for both the novice or first time shooter to the expert to spend a day enjoying the shotgun shooting sports. The facility is open Wednesday through Sunday 9 am to 5 pm.
The clubhouse has a totally new look and is easily accessible for the handicapped or those with difficulty climbing steps. It was a great pleasure spending the day at Suffolk Trap and Skeet and I am very pleased that it has reopened. All shooters should make it their business to visit the range and support it with business. In addition it is important to remember that there is still pending litigation from a few malcontents in the neighborhood and as sportsmen we should support the range with both our business and our moral support.
It was another great day in the outdoors with good friends.
