John Conte (Jim's brother) sent me this photo of a super big brown trout that he took in England where he now lives.
He caught this monster brown trout, 10lb, 1 oz. on the River Test, Newton Stacey, Hampshire, England. It took a dry Mayfly, and it was on a 3lb tippet! It is the largest brown caught on this river since the early 1800's and maybe the largest ever.
Nice fish John.

Gary Arnold hosted a little end of the fishing year party at his great boat/pool house.
We had a great time watching football, videos of Mundus shark fishing and a tuna charter that I set up back in 1989 to the Baccardi wreck.
We all had a few cocktails and talked about the season and past fishing fun. It was a good time.
Most of the guys had left when I took the photo but still hanging in there were from left to right, Rick Ramsay, Kevin Conzone, Bob Hi-Lo, Gary Arnold and Kevin Froelich.

I fished today on my last trip of the season with my long time friend Rick Ramsay and his buddy Kevin Ryan left to right.
We had a good day on the water with what I now call the newest version of the "Great South Bay Slam". The "Slam" now consists of blackfish, scooter (sea duck) and striped bass.
We fished a small piece in the ocean for five keeper blackfish and then set up for sea ducks. We had a couple of bunched of ducks come in and bagged two.
We then went back in the bay and fished bass with eels and caught one bass about 17 pounds and dropped another.
That was out day and it was a good one for this time of year. The wind layed down and it was a beautiful afternoon.
A fitting end to the fishing season with good guys and good weather. An other excellent day on the water doing what I love to do.

The New Gibbs Pro Series Danny
Plugs are Here!
Back in March Al had the chance to meet with the guys over at Gibbs Lures and put his two cents in. The result is the new Pro Series lure that features better hooks, swivels and more. These new lures are available here on our site in the Hot color of Yellow.

I fished today on another day off. The weather report was for horrible conditions but at 8 am it didn't look so bad so while hanging around Augie's we decided to go for a couple of hours. This day was on Scott Leonard's boat with Scott and Captain Dave Zarello. As it turns out it did get real lousy later with a lot of wind against tide which made it almost impossible to fish the right way. We probably should have stayed home but we killed some time and caught fish but it wasn't pretty.
Here is Scott working a nice 30 pound fish in a hot spot which will remain anonymous.
Turns out the spot was not that hot with one fish and another pick-up and drop but we did have action on a nasty day. Three nut jobs having fun.
Captain Dave did a great job on netting this nice fish with some encouraging words from the crew.
We had so many clothes on we could hardly move but we were warm and caught fish.
Dave kind of resembled the Michelin Tire Man.
Another fun day on the water.

I had the day off today and guess what? I felt like fishing.
There are a lot of fish moving in from the east and I wanted to check it out. It looks like they are just arriving. My neighbor Mike has some nice fish on jigs just east of the inlet.
I plugged three fish of 29 pounds, 24 pounds and 15 pounds and they all looked clean and just in from the ocean. This is the 24 pounds fish with only one blemish on the body and nice and green with a big fat belly and nice shoulders. It was definitely an ocean fish.
I had another big fish on and it must have wrapped the leader all the way to the main line and broke me off after about almost 10 minutes. It was a big fish but sometimes you don't win, the fish does and it cost me a plug.
All fish were released.
Another good day on the water.

I fished today with Joe Devito and his son Joe Jr. and buddy George.
We fished hard for a couple of fish in tough conditions. It was windy and cold but we managed a nice fish on a plug and a small one on bait.
Here is Joe Jr. and George with our fish.
A tough day but another good day on the water.

Another part of the trip was interesting.
Here is Captain Dave Zarello with his new 25 Contender. Beautiful boat. He had a party out and they caught a few fish including a nice one of about 30 pounds.
As I was passing him I noticed some activity that looked a little strange. Dave was hanging out the back of the boat trying to unwrap a bait that was in the prop. I thought I would snap a photo of his great boat and also catch him doing the acrobatics. He is a hard working captain and this is definitely not his best side.
