Bill put out the rig and it looked pretty good. We joined him and sat it out for a morning hunt with no results.
Sometimes you eat the ducks and sometimes they eat you.
Jim Conte tending the boat and waiting for some action.
Bill's dog Bridie. She is really a great dog. She waited patiently watching every minute. Bill shot a bird before we arrived and she made a great retrieve.
It was a beautiful quiet morning and I enjoyed it even though we didn't kill any birds.

Today Jim Conte and I hunted the Peconic River Sportsman's Club. It was a beautiful day and a perfect setting but few ducks.
We saw three wood ducks but no shots.
Here is Jim.
Jim took a photo of me so I make another appearance on my website.
The Club is really a beautiful place and I love to hunt it even though it may be slow sometimes.

I hunted the opening day of the regular duck season with my buddies Pete Johnston and Jimmy Conte, Pete with the mustach.
We had a great morning of hunting in one of our favorite spots.
The bag for the day was six geese and six ducks. Pete's son PJ's dog Scout got in on the action and retrieved a couple of birds.
The Federal "Black Cloud" ammo is really smoking the birds.
It was another fun opening day with a lot of laughs and some good gunning.

Jim and Pete with the days bag limit which included my but as usual I am not in the photo.
Another memorable day on the water.

The now finished duck drops like a rock and more kept coming. It was a good shoot with lots of action and a great day on the water.
I was shooting my new Benelli "Black Eagle II" with cryo chokes and it was blasting them out of the sky.
Good equipment brings good results.
Here we have Pete and Jim working a bunch of tending ducks with shells flying. These ducks are fast and tough. You have to make a great shot to bring them down and you have to use the right ammo or they will laugh at you.
Covering the bird with heavy shot of BB or BBB will do the trick every time. We used a new load today made by Federal called "Black Cloud" and it was devestating on the ducks. It has a unique blend of belted pellets and round pellets of steel with a wad that will keep the pattern together as you can see by this photo.
This duck has just gone through the shot stream and is done.
The "Black Could" will set new limits for this coming season. Leave it to Federal to come up with something this good.
