I did a morning hunt with Buddy Cipoletti. We had some shots and one of the birds was a nice drake mallard.
With all the craziness of the Holiday Season I have not had time to update the site. We had a few good hunts over the past few days with broadbill, geese, brant and ducks.
The cold weather is good for duck hunting and I look forward to an excellent January of hunting the Great South Bay.
Merry Christmas!

Buddy took a few shots while hunting. This is me sitting and waiting for some birds.
It was a glass flat morning with an interesting sky. The decoys really looked good and worked well that day even with no wind.

I hunted today with Buddy Cipoletti and Jim Conte and we had a good time with broadbill in the layout boat and other ducks and brant on a late day shoot.
Here is Buddy with a brace of brant.
I haven't been able to update over the past few days due to activities and the website server being down but I will try to make it up.
This is me with a couple of nice geese taken on 12/14 with Jim Conte.
We got the layout rig all set and hunted a couple of hours in a nice spot. It was productive.
A good shot of the Great South Bay at sunrise and the Bridge on an early icy morning.
My good buddy Pete Johnston bagged a nice black duck and to his surprise it was banded and also had a radio transmitter attached.
It turns out that this duck was fitted with the hardward (bling) by a special task force investigating the movements of black duck in the Eastern Flyway. They are trying to figure out why the black duck is not doing as well as it should.
I hope it gives them good information.
Those that do not hunt would never be able to participate in this investigation which will eventually help manage the population of black ducks. They are all mouth and no substance. Hunters contribute a million dollars a day to conservation, they only give lip service. Enough!
Here is a good close look at the transmitter on the back of the duck and the band on the leg.
Pete never shot a banded bird and when he did it was a whopper, band and GPS transmitter all in one.
Congaratulations Pete!
Several days ago Jim Conte and I did a short day shoot for ducks and geese. It worked out pretty well as you can see with two nice huge Canadians in the bag. One bird weighed 17 pounds.
My Benelli Super Black Eagle II shooting Federal 3.5 inch "Black Cloud" BBB is deadly on geese. Today I shot Federal "Balck Cloud" 3.5 inch #2 on the ducks and it was devestating. Great ammo!
More great fun on the water with great guys having a lot of fun.

Today was a hunt on the bay with Bill MacDougal and his dog Bridie.
Conditions were good with light snow and cold but the birds never took flight.
We saw a few but that was it.
