I finally had two nice bass today on plugs. One was 27 pounds and the other was 25 pounds. The one in the picture was 27 and was a real nice fish with a big belly and real clean. I released both fish as they were hooked clean in the lip and looked like they were doing very well. Both were caught in less than five feet of water.
It was good to hook up with a nice fish on the plug. It was a long winter for me and this was worth the wait.

Chris had an interesting thing happen to him today. He had a bass run off and when he set the hook he had him on for a few seconds and then pulled the hook but hooked into something else. Amazingly it was a blackfish that he snagged. Out of the mouth of a bass and into the belly of a blackfish.
It was a fun day on the water with Chris. We both had a good time.

We found the bunker today in very skinny water. They were all bunched up and trying to hide from the bluefish that were tearing them to pieces. You can't miss with the cast net when the bunker are in a foot of water.

I fished with Chris Madonnia today and we had a good time. The big bluefish were going crazy and we caught a bunch on live bunker. We got out of that area and fished for bass. We caught 5 fish all in the teens and had some fun.

Al and I had a great morning working on our new DVD Plugging Bass. The weather was perfect and we captured some great Bass strikes for the new production!

I had the opportunity to fish with Jim Hutchinson of the Fisherman Magazine for a few hours this morning. We had a great time plugging for Bass and Blues in the early morning fog. We didn't to catch any larger Bass but it was a lot of fun.

While I was out on the water I ran across Al with a charter. This is Marc and Anthony with a nice bass caught on the "Skimmer" this morning. They are still out fishing and I am sure Al will have more to ad later when he gets back to the dock.
I am back at the dock after a long day of fishing but it was fairly productive. We had a 22 pounds fish on bait and dropped a big fish who kept running out line until the bluefish chopped through the line. It was a good fish I would estimate at least 30 pounds.
We caught three bass in the teens on plugs early in the day. The bluefish were savage and we went through two days worth of live bait in a couple of hours but you have to stick with it in the bluefish until you get the bass. They are feeding together just like last spring.
The fog in the morning was not nice but the day turned out to be pretty good. We all had a good time.

I took a short trip this afternoon and ran into some nice fish. I had five fish up to 29 pounds. The one pictured was 25 and released.
I would say the big fish are here and the season is in full swing.
I also just got my shipment of plugs from Gary Soldati of Bigwaterlures.com. He makes some of the finest plugs to be found anywhere.
I am sure these beauties will catch some big fish this season. I love the yellow 8 inch black back and the yellow pink belly, the bottom two plugs but I also think the jointed eel third from the top is going to kill the big fish.
The top two plugs are meant for trolling but since I don't do that I am going to throw them on a big conventional stick. They are 10 inches and 8 ounces at least but I know they have to catch a winner.
Skimmeroutdoors.com will be offering a limited selection of Gary's plugs in the near future.
