When they do start coming you can usually have a steady pick of fish. For this time of year, the dozen we caught is pretty good. It should get better every day from here on. I also learned from a local sharpie fisherman that he caught over twenty bass yesterday with a few keepers up to about 30 inches. This was all on the inside. Things are starting to happen as of today. I look forward to some real good fishing from now on.

I fished with Scott Leonard of Augie's today. We fished for four hours and had a couple of fish. It was slow going.
Here are our two beauties in the live well. It was an exploratory mission today and tomorrow we have a good game plan. We should catch fish.

Scott Leonard, his friend Chris and I fished for flounder again today. We went to where we caught a couple of fish yesterday and set up and gave it four hours with plenty of chumming. It worked out well as you can see. Scott is filleting a nice bunch of flounder.

You are looking at the big flounder catch on the maiden voyage for the season. Two flounder at about 7" each was the total for the four hour session. They were caught locally in the Babylon area. Not much to speak of for action but it was a day of fishing. On an interesting note, being that it was the first trip and you kind of forget the drill from previous years of experience, therefore I forgot the flat of worms I left on the fish box. When I got up to make a move and ran to the east I discovered after anchoring on the new spot that there were no worms on the boat. They had blown overboard on the trip to the new spot. Luckily Scott Leonard from Augie's was nearby and "LOANED" me a few worms to get through the day. As it turned out, I really didn't need any because we caught nothing but crabs the rest of the day, but thanks anyway Scott.

I fished on Scott Leonard's new Regulator 26 today. Scott is the proprietor of Augie's Custom Tackle in Babylon and needless to say we had the best in fine worms and chum. We gave the flounder a shot on a nice warm spring day. Too bad the flounder didn't know that it was so nice. They dodged us pretty well. We didn't have a bite for 3 hours of fishing. The good news was the water got up to 45 degrees so they can't be far behind. I think a few more days sould do it and then there should be some action. The 26 Regulator is pretty awesome. It was fun to wet a line in northern waters once again. It is hard to imagine that last week I was catching 40 pound permit out of Marco Island, Florida.
I am getting geared up for the upcoming season. The water is nice and clean and the bass should be here in a few weeks. If you want to book a charter, now is the time to set it up. Prime dates are already going fast.
